Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

We ordered some take-out's on phone and went there to pick them up. The people working there were really friendly, and I'm pretty sure one of the ladies was the boss(' wife). The food tasted good. We ordered wu-xi pork ribs and sizzling tofu. (I'm just making these names up... we ordered in chinese...) So, the ribs are cooked in a sweet and slightly sour sauce, served with baby bok choy. It tasted good, but just a little too sweet for me. And the sizzling tofu are fried soft tofu on a bed of iceberg lettuce with a black pepper sauce. This dish is my favorite. I guess the only con I noticed was the time we'd been waiting for. We drove for about 15 minutes there, and then wait for another 10 or 15 minutes. There were only 2 table of guests there when we arrived, and one of them had already got their food. But overall, it worth the wait. And if I were to visit State College again, I would like to have lunch here again. (Fairly speaking, it would be a 3-star. But it's State College instead of LA, so yeah, an additional star for sc. XD)

YUCK. Let me start by saying, I gave two stars, not one, because the place is huge, they have a sushi buffet on weekday afternoons, lots of parking, and a huge menu. That said, I got their takeout. I got chicken lo men...it was so bland! The only real flavor was from the TONS AND TONS of bean sprouts. To top it off, I got Beef Ho Fun. Bland again, with almost as many bean sprouts as the lo mein. Lastly, we got their potsticker/dumplings. Damn fine!!!!! Normally, I like potstickers to be in a thin pasta, but these are thick. Super good. Or we were just hungry from not eating our other dishes. I'll report back after I try the buffet.

What can I say...? Meh. If you like sweet, fried American style Chinese takeaway-quality food this place isn't bad. They do quite a business, which keeps the sushi and seafood fresh, but does saying "I've never gotten sick eating here" qualify as good sushi? Perhaps. Two things to know: 1) The bartender is one of the best and most creative in town. It's well worth bellying up and asking him to make you something delicious then watching him work. He also works hard to bring in unique beers and liqueurs. 2) There's an eat in only "secret menu"! Ok, so it's in the front of the menu so it's not so secret, but it's only in the full menu and not online or in the takeaway menu. It's filled with authentic Chinese dishes. Things you can't pronounce and things that don't translate well. Be brave and point to something and chances are you'll have one of your better meals here.

bad services when delivery. Very bad. I do not know how can you provide such a terrible service to customers.
(1)Lei Z.
The taste is much worse than a year ago. I tried three times last month. I gave 3 stars since there are only limited restaurant in SC.
(3)Cindy L.
I came here for their all-you-can-eat sushi lunch. Surprisingly, it wasn't bad. The rice portion wasn't too much. That's how you roll sushi. I've also been here for some of their traditional Chinese cuisine. It's whatever that is in between not good and satisfactory...I think the word is "OK." I can't get some of the more traditional dishes at other places in State College so for that I will give 3 stars. That's generous. Also, there's terrible service. I see that a lot of people have mentioned this so I don't know why management has not corrected this yet.

Terrible delivery guy!!

In town to visit an old friend; this was one of the places she suggested. I peeked at their website and saw that they offered legit Shanghainese food and picked it. There's a separate menu of just authentic dishes that they don't put on the website, and it's full of deliciousness. It took a while to pick something because the choices were many. In the end I picked chili chicken, a dish I'm sure I've had elsewhere with potatoes. This wasn't the same dish but was still absolutely delicious. Pieces of chicken were deep fried - properly, so they weren't greasy at all - and then cooked with hot peppers to make one spicy dish. Tasty, spicy hot, and enough food for two meals. My friend got their Singapore-style mai fun [rice noodles] and the amount they served was ginormous! We also got some nigiri sushi to share. It wasn't bad but it also wasn't anything special. We had no issues with service, which was friendly and helpful. I would come back here again, were I in town, just for the authentic food.

Hit. Or. Miss. That sums it up. The hibachi and sushi are 5 stars. The hibachi is expensive so it's only for special occasions. The chefs are talented and entertaining. The food is great. We enjoy it very much. Then there's dining in the Jade part. The Chinese food is okay. Some of the dishes are hit or miss. The General Tso's is very good, although it is and Americanized Chinese dish. The spring rolls and egg rolls are great. Everything else I've had is meh at best. Flavorless, bland, and sometimes gross. The service is AWFUL. On our last visit, were seated and waited a long time before a server approached us. Every time we are there, they seem to have 3 servers working whether it is a busy Saturday night or steady Monday. On a busy night, we can expect to not have our drinks refilled. I ordered their house green tea during the last visit and I didn't like it. I was fine with paying for it but I wanted a soda at this point. However, we couldn't get our waitress' attention to come to us until it was time to get the check. During another visit, our waitress brought the entrees and I asked her if I could have a side of friend rice. Due to the language barrier and her assuming I wanted pork friend rice, I just gave up. It was very disappointing.

I find Fuji & Jade Garden to be completely puzzling. First of all, the comments from the management in response to Yelp reviews are wholly inappropriate. Someone complains about their drink and the management responds with a history of the Mai Tai rather than an apology that the drink was sub par and the bartender refused to remake it? Unacceptable. I tried to order delivery on their website. You can't specify special requests by the items nor can you pay online. When I called to pay, they eventually found my order and I decided to come get it rather than risk a lengthily delivery process. Oddly, the price was $10 higher than the online price. Well, math is hard, I suppose. My husband and I pulled in and our food wasn't ready. He asked for a Diet Coke and they told him that if he opened it, he had to drink it all in the restaurant because of state liquor laws. Interesting since Diet Coke isn't liquor, but whatever. I knew I should have checked the order but I didn't. They left out the pancakes for the Mu Shu and gave my husband miso soup rather than hot & sour. The food is uniformly bland American-style Chinese food. I was surprised the place was packed. I was surprised there were Asian people eating there. State College is full of such surprises, I suppose.

Great all-you-can-eat maki sushi lunch special! M-F from 11am-3pm for $14.95. The quality of the sushi was surprisingly good, not too much rice in proportion to fish, and the fish seemed fresh. Also, they did not skimp on the rolls for the special. They start you off with 4 full rolls, and then you can go for more after that.
(5)Terry G.
Fuji and Jade Garden has both a big Chinese and Japanese menu. I'm a big fan of their sukiyaki, and other items I've had are very good as well.
(5)Chelsea K.
I ordered delivery today at 12:33, I called the restaurant at 2:00 to let them know it still has not arrived. They said they were busy and it would be here shortly...it's currently 3:00 and I just called again and they said it will be here in 10 minutes. It's been 2 and a half hours....I have to leave for work within a half hour and will not even have time to eat the food I ordered, paid for and waited OVER 2.5 hours for....that's if it actually shows up in 10 minutes.......unacceptable

After visiting state college for nearly 3 weeks I have to say the place I have ordered from most frequently is Fuji and jade. Take this review with a grain of salt because I have only had take out, but I wish I could move the restaurant home with me. Cheap, delicious, and a quick meal. Have tried multiple rolls and multiple dishes and they have not disappointed. That being said, after scouring through the yelp review I am happy to say I have never sat down and enjoyed food there if I was imbibing. This bartender seems like a psycho person that John Taffer from bar rescue needs to visit. You make your drinks for your clientele, not for your own ego. Who is going to want to show up and drink a 1900s drink, let alone know what ingredients are in it? After tending bar for years now, it's just reprehensible, and to also comment on other reviews defending your practice....dismal. That being said, Fuji in my opinion is delicious and still deserves the 5 stars. Just wish they could knock the bartender down a few pegs.
(5)Xinyi L.
disappointed experience. The waitress like disappeared forever and the attitude was bad. When we asked for the check, we waited for a long time and finally we went to the front desk to swipe our credit card with the the tip included. I mean, the amount of tips should be decided by ME but not the waitress, right?
(2)Kim H.
Definitely one of the best places for Chinese take out! Their service is fast, their staff is friendly, their prices are very reasonable, and their ingredients are fresh. They had no problem making me a dinner special that wasn't on the menu, with shrimp and garlic sauce. Their garlic sauce is so good, and tier shrimp are huge! Not those tiny little baby shrimp you get in most takeout.
(5)Denisse J.
Nothing special, it's OKAY. I've most def had better but I am only judging on the sushi rolls and nothing more.
(2)J A.
Pleasant surprise. Got the dry hot pot (vegetarian). Soooooo good! Good alcohol selection as well.
(5)Zach L.
A solid choice for Chinese. Take out is very fast but delivery is slow. Lots of options for dine in. Wonton soup is very good. Spring rolls are excellent. Sushi is pretty standard but tasty and well made.
(3)Christina G.
WORST restaurant I've EVER been to! I am not even exaggerating. My sister came to visit one weekend and we decided to do a nice dinner together for her last night here. We decided to do hibachi and sushi and saw this place on yelp. Yes, we saw they only had 3 stars, but we were hungry enough to give it a shot based on the pictures and not reviews. As soon as we sit down, we ordered two Mai Tais and after 15 minutes of not receiving our drinks, we decided to ask our waitress what the status was on it. She finally brings out ONE "Mai Tai" and it has a yellow, brownish color to it and tastes like PURE alcohol/dish water and if you ever had an actual Mai Tai before you'll know that they are usually pink/orange, very fruity and usually garnished with some sort of fruit (Google it). Anyway, long story short, the Bartender comes over to us after we tried to send back the Mai Tai for something different and he lays into us right away. Telling us that we are wrong in the nastiest way possible, saying that the restaurant has a policy of not taking off an ordered drink and we would have to pay for this drink and the new drink he would make us. He continued to badger us at our table, embarrassing the crap out of us in front of two other tables near us until we finally told him he needs to leave the table right now and get us an actual restaurant manager; he refused. He came back to our table a second and third time to continue to bully us until finally one of the girl servers said she would take our drink off of the bill after telling us that the bartender is very rude and she was very sorry. In conclusion ladies and gentleman, this is NOT the first time this bartender has done this. In fact, I came home to tell my boyfriend only to find that he had the SAME problem when he went to this restaurant. So, if you're looking for a fight and some REALLY disgusting drinks, head on over to this restaurant. If not, keeping searching on yelp...and be sure to listen to those star reviews because that was where we went wrong.

There should be a zero scale for this restaurant. I went there with my friends on a Saturday for lunch. Our waiter was terrible!!! He didn't answer any of our questions on the menu properly and we waited forever for our drinks, we actually got out drinks after the meal was here, we had hibachi so it was the chef who brought us our food not the waiter. He never checked how we were doing or asked if we needed a refill. We had to clear our own empty bowls off the table and get the spoons and chopsticks ourselves!!! And when we asked for our checks he suddenly became a little bit nice, and when he came to pick up our credit cards he asked if he could fill out the tip for us!!! We were so mad and gave a low tip which he did not deserve at all. And when he saw what we gave him and we were already at the door by then, he walked towards the door and yelled "F*** you! Who gives a ten percent tip?!" in Chinese. Um... I'm sorry but if you ask me a waiter that uses that kind of language to speak to a customer should be looking for food out of trash cans the next day. Even if he wasn't yelling directly at us, but he was not talking to anyone else so his intentions were to make us hear him. And since we were already out the door by the time he finished that sentence we just ignored him. The Chinese food is good there, but if we ever go there again and got that waiter and he treated us the same way we are not letting it go that easy.

Let me preface this review by stating that the "Five Stars" applies to one thing, and one thing only: the Cocktail Bar. Nothing else here deserves anything even approaching five stars, but the cocktails are so outstanding that it'd be a disservice to State College not to get the word out. Best cocktails in town, by a longshot. I'll get all the glaring negatives out of the way. First, the food is terrible. The homestyle Japanese dishes are perhaps the worst thing I've ever eaten; I ordered Oyakodon, and it was a rubbery flavorless mess that I promptly threw away. The Chinese food is barely any better. I can't speak to the Sushi, but I'm really scared to try it with my past experiences. As for the decor of the dining room, the boxes and junk stored there make the whole place feel pretty shoddy. Delivery and Take-Out options are pretty good, but that's not saying a whole lot. With all of that said, it's time to talk about that cocktail bar. If you've been to a big city lately, you've probably noticed the trend towards "Craft Cocktails." Instead of Bartenders serving up long-island iced teas and other party drinks, you have "Mixologists" who take pride in crafting exceptional cocktails. These drinks elevate alcohol to new levels of sophistication, and have to be experienced to be believed. Unfortunately, those bars are rare outside of metropolitan areas, but we are lucky enough to have one sneakily hidden away in Fuji & Jade. You immediately know there's something special about the bar when you see the array of bottles lined up behind the bartender. Along with your regular top-shelf crew there are dozens of bottles of unique and unusual ingredients. There are herbal liqueurs, truly exceptional base spirits, a full array of bitters and vermouths. Pretty much anything you can imagine, they can make. For a cocktail-lover like myself, this alone is a dream come true, but it's made even better by the house menu and the helpfulness of the bartender. The house menu features some of the bartender's favorite new recipes, along with some tried and true favorites that they've had around for a while. I always like looking it over, and use it as a source when I'm there with someone (like my girlfriend) with very different tastes in cocktails from myself. If, for some reason, I'm still at a loss for what to order, the bartender is exceptionally helpful. It's very easy for a good mixologist to become pretentious or belligerent, cursing the plebes who can't appreciate the finer points of their art. But the bartender at Fuji & Jade isn't like that at all, and he always has good suggestions based on what YOU like, not what he thinks you should like. And on a slow day, he's more than willing to take some extra time to come up with something completely new with his wide array of spirits. The only downside to the cocktail bar is price. Outstanding cocktails aren't cheap, and you can find yourself paying upwards of $10 a drink pretty easily. This is pretty consistent with the great cocktail bars in New York, but it can come as a shock to someone more used to $3 drinks at one of the watering-holes downtown. If I could give two reviews, I'd probably give the food at Fuji & Jade one star, while the bar would get a solid five. But as it is, I can only give one score for this review. Philosophically, I think it's best to score a restaurant on its best possible experience, and the best experience here is to walk straight to the bar every time you walk through the door. If you do that, and ignore the restaurant's food entirely, Fuji & Jade deserves five stars.

Great all you can eat sushi lunch special. Takeout is mediocre.
(3)Gene K.
I ordered the sesame chicken and upon receiving it, I couldn't believe that a place could cut corners to this extent. The individual pieces of chicken are extremely thin, and once fried, are at least 70% batter. They also take up space within the dish that could have been occupied by meat. In fact, of the ten or so pieces I received within my lunch special, only two were thicker than a centimeter. The texture is entirely comprised of the fried batter and overcooked and barely present meat, creating a texture akin to gooey fried beef jerky. While I can't speak for the other dishes, the lack of effort involved seriously makes me doubt any integrity the restaurant might hold.

I ate here on this previous New Year's Day. The food was excellent - vegetable sushi roll and orange tofu dish - but the service and tea left a lot to be desired. I initially ordered the jasmine tea, which the menu describes as hot, but when it arrived, it was cold, full of tea leaves, and so weak it was practically water. It took too long to wave down the server when I tried to order another pot, and the server told me that the next pot would be the same because that's how the jasmine tea was supposed to be. (The people I was with told me that they had never received jasmine tea like this here before.) So I asked if the oolong tea would be the same, and the server told me no, it would be hot and without tea leaves. I changed my order to the oolong tea, and when it arrived, it was tepid and there were still leaves, but at least there were less leaves and it was actually tea strength. I decided to stop pushing the issue. But as I said, we all greatly enjoyed our food.

Honestly, I HATE IT. By far the worse Chinese food I have ever had period. I get to express my dislike for this place on sometimes weekly basis because my boyfriend actually likes this place and order take out from here pretty consistently which I just can't seem to understand?!. But anyways~ Sorry Fuji & Jade garden but you just don't cut it for me.
(1)Chong Z.
This is the best Chinese Food we can possibly have around State College. The price is about $15 per person, not bad. If you like spicy food, this is the right place to go . I have to admit that its spicy style of cooking is even better than many restaurants in China. If you don't like spicy food and prefer to have sweet food, this restaurant is probably not for you.
(5)Abby M.
By far my favorite sushi in state college!!! It is authentic Chinese and Japanese and decorated nicely inside. The employees are kind and service is exceptional. I would have sushi at least once a week at Fuji whether it was dine in or take out. Although I never tried the hibachi there I heard it was tasty. I love the pan fried gyoza! My favorite rolled sushi at fuji was the Pikachu roll with crunchy white fish, avocado, shrimp and crab rolled in white seaweed and the Fantastic Roll with Smoked eel, fresh salmon, avocado outside, crunchy spicy tuna, crab inside. I recommend either of those rolls if you like sushi and plan on going to Fuji. When I go home to visit I plan to stop at fuji fo

I am frustrated because my review of this restaurant has been filtered on two occasions. I went to update and first review vanished. I rewrote. These were all respectful and detailed reviews. Sorry, if my review is negative, but it is consistent with other reviews. The service, staff and management at Fuji Jade are rude, arrogant and unapologetic. Restaurants get busy and staff get in the weeds, but it's not appropriate to ask the customers to not bring that to your attention. Recently, I placed an online order and waited an hour to check on the status. It was clearly busy when I called and the 'manager' stated that they were busy and I shouldn't expect food to arrive so fast. An hour seemed long, so I thought maybe the online order was delayed, so I asked what time they had received the order. I was told to stop complaining and that my food would be ready and delivered in 30-40 minutes. I had two children waiting to eat, so I asked to cancel my order. The 'manager' berated me and hung up. I called back to be sure that I would be credited the amount I already paid and the 'manager' hung up on me immediately. I called back and asked to speak to a manager. I was told by this person that they were the manager and that I couldn't speak to anyone else, because I didn't speak Chinese. Eventually, I had to rely on my credit card to reverse the transaction, because Fuji Jade never initiated a refund. Food has always been ok, but service is confrontational. And I think all of the other reviews back up that perspective. My review went from a 2 star to a 1 star.
(1)Kayla R.
I give this place one star in terms of the hibachi and sushi aspect. The chinese food I have had here was exceptional. The hibachi was one of the priciest ones I have ever had, and the worst. The dipping sauces were not good, and we were not given not much of a show or a large helping on our plate. Could not see why I paid extra? My real reason for reviewing is the Hana Roll. I had heard alot of great things about this place being "the best sushi in State College." I was sourly disappointed. I paid 13 dollars to literally hate my meal. It was awful. I didn't take any ingredients except for the bland coating used in the shrimp tempura. This is the first time I was ever truly disappointed in a sushi roll. I have not tried other rolls, and I never will because I have vowed to never return. Sorry Fuji and Jade, but you lost this customer.

Coming from a region in LA that is just infested with incredible east asian food offerings, it's hard to be impressed by what F&J has to offer. Arrogance aside, the mabodoufu was very tasty and what I ate most of the night. Our appetizer, the chili cabbage, was interesting, to say the least, a kind of sweet kimchi-esque dish. The other dishes -- some shrimp garlic and vegetable fried rice -- were unremarkable, just mush of oyster and soy sauce. Best thing of the night was that the liquor is extremely reasonable. A whole tumbler of (strong!) Whiskey Sour was $4.

Ordered some deliver here the other day. Hey Fuji and Jade Garden, I'd like my money back please. I promise to regurgitate my food to give back to you. I was hungry for some dinner, and granted, I was already super skeptical on ordering any form of Japanese food at State College. I know that it's not real Japanese food, but for some damn reason, I still decided to take a risk here. The price for the dinner bento box was NOT cheap. It was very comparable to prices you'd pay in real cities, which kind of ticked me off. Nonetheless, I proceeded to order my bento box of chicken teriyaki and sushi. For sides, Fuji and Jade Garden gives you some seaweed salad, miso soup, salad, and shumai. Delivery took about an hour which I guess is the norm around here. Now, onto the food. The miso soup, actually came in a large container. I not a bad deal, but then again, it's just some soup. The salad was standard garden salad topped off with miso dressing. The salad itself was a little warm, but I assumed it was because of all the heat from the food. So.....the seaweed salad. It was basically grocery store bought seaweed salad and it tasted like it. What could be worse? The sorry excuse for shumai. Now, upon seeing it, I realized that this was frozen shumai, EXACTLY the same as the ones you'd buy in the frozen section of the grocery store. It was small, mushy, and did I mention that it was frozen shumai from the grocery store? Wow, just wow. I was never as appalled as I was at that moment. Don't fret, it gets even better. The sushi that I got was pretty bad I must say. It was warm, didn't taste fresh, and was just overall bad quality. The teriyaki chicken was dry, and looked like a chicken patty chopped up and then dosed with teriyaki sauce. I must say that I will never order from here again. Save yourself some dignity and stay away.

I've avoided writing a review for Fuji & Jade because I have such mixed feelings about it. I hate on Fuji & Jade all the time because people in State College think this is a "nice" place to go to eat but, let's face it...maybe that's because it IS one of the better Asian food places in town. No, really, it's not THAT bad. It's actually pretty...good? Alright, confession time: I order takeout from here ALL the time. Mostly because it's convenient for me and usually pretty fast. The sushi here used to be really bad, but I really feel like they've stepped up their game since I last visited ~3 years ago. Maybe it's because they finally have some competition in town with the opening of Sakura. It can be a little hit-and-miss but usually it's pretty good, or at least edible. This is also my favorite "Chinese" place in town. If you're looking for authentic, you probably want to run the other direction. If you're looking for greasy, guilt-inducing deliciousness, this will hit the spot. The General Tso's chicken in particular, while it could be more spicy, is super crispy and meaty. The cocktails are surprisingly good and the bartenders know what's up. Pricey for State College, but worth it. The Thai-pirinha is sooo good and so is just about everything else. Honestly, weird as it may seem, I think Fuji has the best drinks in town. Even the tamest thing on Fuji's menu is more exciting than whatever mediocre spin on a Cosmo Zola wants you to drink. Overall this isn't a place you're going to be craving, but it's solidly okay.

Well, well. Apparently, some things *do* change for the better. Cocktail Dude is still around and more knowledgable than ever. Apart from a very eclectic cocktail menu that incorporates seasonal updates, you can pretty much order your favorite drink, and he'll make it in a way you haven't had it before. Or you can just let him do his thang after you've told him a bit about the flavors you enjoy. I am particularly fond of the gimlet, the 1940s mai tai, and the zombie -- which doesn't look or taste anything like the candy-colored, fruity sugar-bomb one is served in lesser establishments. Also.... tiki mugs. I mean, come on! Ya gotta love it. As for the food, even that has improved. The sushi is still the best in town: the sashimi platter for one consists of 18 very generous slices of fish and easily feeds two for dinner. A plate of stir-fried pea shoots is a thing of beauty -- leafy, green deliciousness with a powerful punch of garlic and a nice kick from chili oil and dried peppers. Every time I order those pea shoots, I cannot help but feel like I am eating the healthiest meal ever... and one that is so incredibly enjoyable. The beef tendon appetizer at $7.95 is simply amazing, in a spicy, Sichuan-style oil dressing, which also arrives as a *very* generous portion -- definitely made to share. The braised pork belly over pickled mustard greens is a comfort-foody, stick-to-your-ribs, rich dish with luscious slices of fatty pork that melt in your mouth. It's nice to come back to a restaurant one has shunned for almost 3 years, and find some really good food. As for whether the service remains an issue I cannot say, as we mostly sit at the bar --where Sc'Eric will take excellent care of you.
(5)Sean M.
Definitely an older looking restaurant and the food service leaves a little to be desired but the menu, although somewhat tedious, has everything and this place has one of the best restaurant bars in town. Not a fine dining place (but what is in State College??) but definitely fun and quirky for casual date nights.
(4)MH J.
DO NOT DELIVER FROM THEM. It's been one hour and 15 minutes since I ordered and the food is still NOT HERE.
(1)Caro M.
Meh, it wasn't a greasy, messy pile of stomach torture like other 'Chinese' places are. The leftovers heated up nicely the next day and tasted a little better. Pretty good price for pretty good takeout.
(3)Joshua A.
Having lived in the area now for 4 years and having eaten here probably 15 times, all I can say about them is: So. ridiculously. hit or miss. Sometimes the sushi is big city quality. Sometimes it literally makes me want to throw up. Today my girlfriend and I decided to order out for sushi, and what we got was basically disgusting. The tuna was a color I've never seen before. It smelled very strongly of fish, and we ended up having to throw at least half of our order away. I realize we're in State College, and sushi-grade fish is sort of a commodity, but if you don't have any relatively fresh fish in, maybe you should take certain rolls off your menu for the day. It's a pain, but it's better than serving borderline rotten fish. I'm uploading a picture of our sushi with this review that may give you nightmares.

There are really two components to fuji & jade garden. 1) Fuji, and 2) Jade Garden, both with distinctive menus. Fuji is the Japanese part, with sushi and hibachi. More expensive, and best enjoyed at the restaurant. Then there is Jade Garden, the cheap Chinese eatery that many have commented on. The distinction between the two is most obvious if you order online, on lionmenu, on which both menus are actually separated. The Chinese menu at Jade Garden is average. Portions are relatively large, and their szechuan dishes are excellent as others have pointed out. Their Americanized Chinese dishes (e.g. general tso) are below average, and their lo-mein are a little too greasy for my taste. I wouldn't necessarily go to the restaurant to enjoy their Chinese food, I'd much rather have it at home and enjoy their free-delivery and very cheap lunch special prices! It's not like any of the items especially stands out, in my opinion. When it comes to Fuji, it's a totally different story. You can go to the restaurant and enjoy their sushis, or make a reservation for one of their large hibachi tables. Somebody would then cook your food on a large grill, right in front of you, with lots of fire and "ohhhhhh ahhhhhh"s. If you've never experienced this, it's a fun way to spend one evening with a couple friends or to have your little ones very impressed (see pictures). Prices are higher than for jade garden, with most entrees being in the $10-15 range. Other than that, I can't comment on the seafood/sushis as I dont eat seafood. However, the chicken and beef cooked on the hibachi were fine but a little blend. So, I would recommend this restaurant differently depending on what you are looking for. If you're looking for a nice dine-in Chinese, go somewhere else (try golden wok). Although the place looks nice, the food isn't at that level. If you're looking for an interesting hibachi experience, look no further! If you're looking for cheap Chinese, order online or takeout.

This place is one of my favorites! the spicy shrimp maki is the best! i will come back often.

When I first moved to State College, this was one of the first restaurants I ate at since it was one of the only Asian restaurants at the time. (Now, we've had an explosion of Asian eateries) That dinner I did find what looked like a bug in my 'lo mein' and complained to the manager. He said it was a peppercorn but offered me 10% off my meal. I stopped eating there for awhile. Most recently, my coworkers and I ordered food. The menu online (lionmenus) didn't match with the total cost, so we called back to find out why there was the price was so much higher. We were rudely told that the price online is wrong and that they won't honor the online price. I received my food which I order fairly often (Beef&Broccoli) and the beef was slightly pink and very sponge-y. I don't like to be one of those people who call and complain but paying $12 for bad food is unacceptable in my book. I called and talked with one girl and then was handed over to another woman who told me if I wasn't happy with the food to eat somewhere else. ?????!!! While I don't think the food is horrible the customer service is clearly horrific and does not deserve anyone's hard-earned money.

I've decided to give Fuji Jade a second chance. Decent food in SC is rare, so I've been here a few times since my bad experience, and it's been pretty good to me overall. The cocktails, sushi, and garlic tofu are pretty good. Table service is slow, so sit at the bar if you can; but the bar is often packed and apparently they don't allow people to stand. Always eat in the restaurant--never, ever order delivery. That way, if anything goes wrong, you're already there to talk to them in person.

Having tried out most of the offerings at Fuji and Jade, the only area I recommend strongly is the hibachi/Japanese steak house. The sushi and standard Chinese/Japanese fare is pretty average and, I think, a little pricey. The hibachi offerings, while a little pricey, are probably the best you'll find in the area, and the only where they'll prepare it on the hot table right in front of you. They also get a high note for their mixed drinks, in the evenings the bartender is amazing. Though for State College drinks here are a little pricey, the quality can't be beat. If you want great sushi, search elsewhere. There are numerous better options in the immediate area. If you're seeking hibachi and mind blowing drinks this place fits the bill.

Worst service I've ever had in State College! My fiancé and I tried it for New Years Eve and while they weren't busy they apparently didn't have any time to serve us after ten minutes of waiting. I would not recommend this place at all and have no desire to go back.

One of my go-to restaurants for late lunch/early dinner. I've read reviews about bad service...I guess I've always been lucky. I can't say that every meal has been stellar, but the food is always consistently good. The orange tofu is crispy and good, the lemon chicken very tasty. The sushi has always been better than average....love the Jumbo Lobster Maki. The bar at Fuji is the best kept secret in State College. An amazing selection of sake...you can try a flight if you are new to drinking it. Great drink menu; the seasonal drinks are inventive, tasty and strong. The bartenders are friendly and will happily explain anything you have a question about too!

Good food no matter what option (Sushi, Chinese or Habachi). Full bar with very knowledgeable mixologists. Never a wait. Take out is speedy. Delivery is not quick (at all), but great food at your door. Restaurant is clean and service is descent. Sushi is fresh and usually has interesting specials.

First off, I have to say this is a combination review. I've ordered delivery from Fuji and Jade twice. Both times the food has been pretty good, the price has been on par with other places in the area, and delivery time has been average. The reason this place only has two stars though is because of service. I used an online ordering service ( lionmenus.com ) to order both times. Both times I paid online and both times, I left a tip online. The first time I ordered, I ordered a lunch sushi platter (spicy tuna roll, California roll, and the kani roll), and for $10.50 it was a good amount of good enough sushi. It wasn't the best sushi I've ever had, but it was adequate. I also ordered General Tso's chicken with pork fried rice and a salad. It was ok, not the best, but not the worst either. When the food got there (about 45 mins after I placed the order), the delivery guy came in dropped the bag on the counter, practically threw the receipt at me and left. Ok then, whatever, works for me. The second time I ordered was a different experience entirely. I ordered dinner sushi, this time it was a Maki Sampler (tuna roll, California roll and yellowtail scallion roll). The sushi was good but they didn't give me as much pickled ginger as I would have liked. I also ordered the PuPu platter, which comes with four crab rangoons, two big spare ribs, two skewers of beef, two big fried shrimp, and two what appeared to be fried tofu triangles. This stuff was pretty great (except for the tofu, which was just a greasy mess). The food this time around was of the same quality as the first time, and was pretty appropriately priced (the sushi was $12.95 and the PuPu platter was $10.55). The biggest thing lacking was the service. I also used the online ordering service to order delivery this time, so I didn't actually talk to anybody until the delivery guy came. This time around, when he got there he dropped the bag on the counter, gave me the receipt and then stood there staring at me. I was a bit taken aback, so I asked if I needed to sign something. He said sign anywhere, so I signed, handed the receipt back and expected him to leave...Nope. He still stood there staring at me. "Anything else you need?" I asked... He said something about a tip. I said "tip?" He said "T.I.P." Yes, yes, I heard you, but I didn't think I should have to tip twice. So I told him as much, I told him I had already tipped when I paid the order online, but still he stood there, not leaving until I tipped him AGAIN. I ended up giving him $2.00 on top of the tip I already gave. He apparently did not think that was enough, because he ripped the money out of my hand scoffed disgustedly and skulked away. Ok well, that's the last time that's going to happen, because I'm not ordering from Fuji and Jade again. Long story short, if you want ok food for ok prices and accompanied by less-than-great service, try Fuji and Jade. If you want better, definitely go somewhere else! Oh and a quick P.S. A lot of reviews mentioned that this is the only hibachi place in State College. While that was true a few years ago, thankfully it's no longer the case. There is a restaurant called Ni Hao on Martin Street next to Giant that is along the lines of Fuji and Jade. They have a bar, all-you-can eat sushi, hibachi, chinese food, and dessert, and they have an actual menu. They're priced about the same as Fuji and Jade, but they food and service are MUCH better. Also, if you're looking for quite possibly the best hibachi in the area, go to Chen's Mongolian BBQ. They are amazing! The food is fresh and delicious, the price is amazingly cheap (like $6 for lunch) and the service is outstanding! They only offer a small salad/dessert/sushi bar and the hibachi, but it is more than worth it.

First off, here's some information in case you didn't know: they are broken in to three areas - a hibachi/teppenyaki portion, a sushi bar, and a sit down typical portion. I have eaten all three, so I will try and comment on all three. Sushi Bar - they have a pretty good variety and, in my experience, the best sushi in State College. For those used to exotic or very fresh choices, you might be disappointed, but after all - you are in central PA eating sushi... Hibachi - I am a fan of Japanese steakhouses and this place is comparable for a mom and pop version of Benihana. Good sauces, good meat and seafood and trained cooks providing an entertaining experience. The soup leaves a little to be desired, but that is the only issue that I have. Also, in ordering, make sure you understand that you also get a side of noodles in addition to the rice, soup, salad, and main entree. Main Dining Area - Very disappointing. I have tried it two to three times and is not the best food choices for Asian food in town. No matter what you do here, you can expect to spend more than your average State College dining experience. The sushi and hibachi are worth it; avoid the main dining area. I give it four stars because I truly believe the sushi bar and hibachi make up for the down sides of this place.
(4)Minna R.
Came here with a small group for hibachi, so this review is only an assessment of the hibachi experience. In terms of entertainment value, this place is great! Hibachi was definitely fun. The cook did tricks with the utensils, there were flames, ingredients were tossed around, etc etc. the cooking process was engaging and interactive (i.e. pieces of broccoli were thrown and we had to catch it in our mouths, water was squirted, food was served with flair...) Aside from the showmanship, the food was nothing special. You definitely get a lot of food, but there isn't too much flavor. The dipping sauces were good (one was spicy mustard, one was ginger) but I think the actual ingredients should have more flavor. I got the scallops, which were fine (but my mom cooks better ones at home). My fiance got shrimp and lobster. The shrimp were probably the best thing that came off the hibachi grill, and the people who got steak were also happy. Basically, go with the shrimp. Do NOT go with the lobster. It was overcooked and chewy, a cardinal sin when it comes to cooking lobster. Sides included hibachi fried rice which looked pretty good, some bland noodles, and a good assortment of different veggies that unfortunately seemed to lack flavor once they were cooked. Luckily they did have those sauces, but I can't say they saved the dishes. If you've got a group of people or don't mind sitting with a bunch of people you don't know and you're looking for a food/entertainment experience this isn't a bad choice given the limited options in state college. Just don't expect your food to be anything but ordinary.

If I could give negative stars I would. Decided to come here while visiting the area and looking at housing options. As someone who LOVES sushi, I wanted to be sure there would be a great sushi spot in this area. Boy oh boy, is Fuji Jade the FARTHEST thing from even EDIBLE. The sushi was so bad, my fiance and I couldn't even finish it. I must have had 8 glasses of water just trying to get past the first bite. Eventually, we both gave up, concluding it would be better to have not eaten at all then spend the night and potentially the next morning ill off of bad fish. Would never and WILL NEVER come back to this place again, for sushi, for chinese, for ANYTHING.

Flip a coin. Came up heads? Your order is going to be awesome and quick. Shrimp and Lobster Sauce seems to be a rather safe bet from what I can tell. Most of the "common" dishes come out rather tasty. Came up tails? You will end up throwing most of it out after maybe eating two or three bites. Cold sesame noodles turned my stomach. I can only assume the sesame oil bottle blew up over the wok. On the other hand if you came for the bar/cocktails, you're using a cheating coin that just comes up heads all the time with the occassional landing on its side. I could drink Buckaroo Banzais (root beer, dark rum, and sake) all night. Dogfish/Sam Adams bottles for rather cheap too. Sadly, the bar doesn't have taps or any nightly specials though. Could use another bartender during the busy times too. All I can say is that if I'm on a excellent lucky streak that week, I know where I'm ordering asian.

Have eaten here twice. The first time, I got sick. The second time, I ordered katsudon and it came with fish flakes (??) on top. I took it back and said it wasn't katsudon. Their reply? Oh, yeah, that's katsudon. Huh? First of all, there was nothing on the menu description that said that the katsudon had any type of fish in it (why would it?). Second of all, I've eaten katsudon hundreds of times, both in other restaurants and at my home, where I've tried many different recipes I've found online. In all of my experiences, I've yet to come across a single katsudon that included any type of fish or fish flakes - occasionally there will be Worcestershire sauce, but that is it. It's okay if you mess up an order - every business will do that once or twice. But to lie about it and try to act like the customer was the one who messed up? Screw that. And even if some katsudon does have fish in it (I suppose it wouldn't be out of the ordinary to throw some dashi in there), why wouldn't you put that on the menu? On top of all that, the food isn't even good! So, to recap: bland food, makes you sick, and they lie about messing up orders and will refuse to take back food that you don't want. Surprised they're still in business.

Recently went here on a Friday for my cousin's rehearsal dinner and did the hibachi thing (as you are required to if you are sitting at the hibachi tables). It literally took 40 minutes to get water on the table. Drink orders were mind-bogglingly slow. Once our chef finally got started on the grill, things moved along quickly and the food was pretty decent. The night was saved by our chef, but that doesn't really make up for the other things. Oh well, it was a tasty and fun thing to do with a large group of people.

My friends and I had opted for an Habachi table. We were hoping for some fancy skills at work here but that was not the case. He basically just stir fried at the table. I chose the salmon which was quite good. The texture was soft and was topped with a thin layer of teriyaki sauce. I also received a hefty portion of noodles, rice and mixed vegetables. If I had not seen the chef cook our food, I would have thought the veggies were steamed. It was so bland I couldn't even finish it. Same goes for the noodles. If you are looking for a cheap place to fill up then this is it. If you are looking for good food, go elsewhere.

Damn I love this place. What I love most are the bartenders at Fuji Jade because a) they actually know about the drinks they're making and b) they don't get pissed off when you ask a question about them, either. They actually will like, visit your table and chat you up about what you ordered even if you're not sitting at the bar. As a former bartender, this amazes me because I certainly never gave a damn about what the hell you were drinking, nor would I entertain a conversation about it, nor would I EVER pay you a personal visit to your table. I really just didn't care...so this impresses me. Moving on, I have eaten an absurd number of items off this menu and I seriously don't remember ever having anything bad. What I can say though is that dining in the restaurant is WAY BETTER then takeout for some reason. The only meal I ever thought was sub-par was the one time we took it to go. Normally I try and get something different every time because the menu is so extensive that I KNOW there's magical things buried in there deep. . .but that's hard to do, because everything is so mother-f-ing good. So most recently we're into the Shanghai dough which is an app for $5 that I cannot explain other than it comes out cold and spongy with halved mushrooms SOAKED in this chilled sweet sauce that tastes kind of like chocolate? It sounds and looks disgusting, I know, but it is so so good. The mock duck is also a random party choice, served chilled, tastes nothing like duck but is super tasty if you get past the fact it's supposed to be standing in for something it isn't. The bento boxes are super pricey but fantastic, it gives you a sampling of a bunch of shit (that's on the Japanese side of the menu). The moo-sho is fantastic, as is the pork in sherry sauce (super spicy). I usually get something from the sushi list, although I can never remember exactly what I order because I change it up every time but it's always pretty good (for whatever "fish" you can get in rural PA, anyway!). The only one that I would NOT recommend is the Hawaiian roll which is wrapped in a banana (interesting concept, tasteless execution). For dessert you need to try the tempura fried bananas because what ISN'T good fried in tempura? You could seriously fry a dirty gym sock in tempura and I'd eat it. DRINKS: Order the Thai-pherna (tha-per-eena) or die. Party in the mouth, flavor explosion. What I did learn tonight, however, is that the owner of FJ also owns My Thai, Hunan Wok AND the new restaurant that just opened on North Atherton...usually this sort of consolidated ownership nonsense really pisses me off but I'll take it from the Fuj. since they never steer me wrong. The staff also seems generally happy and has a lot of the same people have worked there for awhile, which is usually a good sign about how the owners treat their employees. And yes, that matters.

Really good dine in experience, but don't order delivery from here. The Habachi is basically the best anywhere, the only Habachi in State College, and their chef's put on a good show. They have a good variety of sushi and they have lots of other choices. Most of the time we go there we bring company from out of town for Habachi but occasional sit at the regular dining room tables and order off the regular menu. Honestly we haven't had a chance to try much yet. Everything I have had so far has been good. The atmosphere and bar selection are very good and make it a nice place to go with family friends or clients. The service has been mostly good and the drinks are always made strong. We did order about 50 dollars worth of delivery one night and it was a big mistake. We had a huge tray of sushi and a few hot items and after an hour, when it got here everything was the same temperature... im guessing whatever temperature it was in the back of the delivery boys car. The sushi wasn't very appetizing and the calamari was cold and just gross. I also wanted my money back but having been in in person I can tell you that it was much much better.
(4)Victoria A.
I suppose if I still drank booze I would love this place because it would either make the food and lack of good service palatable, or I wouldn't be hungry because let's face it, why eat when there's so many awesome alcoholic beverages! Asian places in S.C. might want to take into account that a huge menu with various asian cuisines does not make for an enjoyable meal. It means you're usually not good at any of them. Focus on one and stay there. I've had the Bento boxes and the tempura was soggy. I've had the hibatchi dinners which turned out over-salted and dry. The service was slow and surly. It's not difficult to tell that this place also owns My Thai and Penang and something else I can't recall...because their "coupons" are identical in terms of how they appear in the mailer. I will say that My Thai is the one place I'll go for lunch and that's because the service, albeit unfriendly is tolerable, but a few of their dishes are very good. It's fun to watch the non-Thai servers eat with chopsticks in a Thai restaurant as well, since it allows me to do the same!

It's amazing how bad service can really ruin a place for you... If you're a mobile Yelper, you'll see that (as of right now, at least) I'm the Duke of Fuji & Jade Garden. Tonight, I even took over the mayorship of F&JG on Foursquare. That's because I get take-out there A LOT. And I'm never disappointed with my take-out orders, which says a great deal because I'm one of those picky vegetarians. Tonight, though, we decided to dine in to celebrate my wife's birthday. Yay! She wanted sushi, and this is the place to go for sushi in State College. I was looking forward to the Buddhist delight I often order, but alas, it isn't on the menu when you dine in. And as we ordered, it was clear that our server was unable to handle anything that wasn't specifically spelled out on the menu, so I ordered sesame tofu. Here's what the menu has to say about that: "..deep fried till crispy with sesame seeds on top, in special hot & sweet sauce. Served on top of broccoli." Yum. Sesame and broccoli are two things I really like. Here's a bit of foreshadowing -- the description of *orange* tofu: "deep fried till crispy w. orange skin in special hot & sweet sauce & served on top of broccoli." So, our meals came out, and I was presented with a plate of deep-fried tofu in an orange-ish sauce, no sesame seeds on top, and no broccoli. And hey, isn't that ORANGE PEEL I see in that sauce? The next time our server came by, we pointed out that there was no broccoli and no sesame seeds, and we thought that maybe it was really orange tofu. "No. That's sesame tofu. Sesame seeds are mixed in." My wife picked up a piece of the orange peel and showed it to her. "No. That's sesame tofu." We pointed out the lack of broccoli. "You only get broccoli if it's sesame beef or chicken." Now, I know that by weight, broccoli has obviously risen to the price of gold or maybe even saffron, but really? Deny the vegetarians their vegetables? That's just downright cruel. She finally relented enough to bring us a plate with 5 small pieces of steamed broccoli. SOOOOO generous. No apology, though. It's not like we were, you know, PAYING to eat there or anything. And that was the last we saw of her until she picked up my credit card to process the bill. She sent a different server over to talk to us when we had finished eating. We asked him what the dish was in front of me. "Orange tofu," he replied. Oh, as an extra added bonus: My daughter was afraid of the toilet in the women's restroom because it was dirty and cracked, so we had to hurry things up and rush home so she could relieve herself. I've been in their men's restroom before and there was no way I was taking my daughter in there. So, if you want good take-out, I'd say that Fuji & Jade Garden is the place for you -- and will continue to be for me. But I hope the paltry tip I left for our server made it clear that I won't be back any time soon to dine in.

I'm only rating the Sushi. I have yet to be disappointed. Lunch special all you can eat Sushi a pretty good deal and the don't over rice the Sushi. The little bar is really cool and they have one of the most extensive liquor selections. Place is dated and could use a facelift. I can't comment on the Chinese food for I just eat the Sushi.
(4)Andrew S.
This is a review for the Fuji not Jade Garden. I came here twice for sushi craving since I'd better kill myself than eating sushi at Say Sushi. Both of my experience were okay here. The waitress were nice and the order was prompt to our table. I ordered the Love Boat (for 2, but you don't have to be lovers to order this actually) which consist of the chef's selection of sushi and sashimi. Then I added some of their daily special like Uni and Toro. I did the same for both of my visits. I am satisfied with the quality of the fish they have. I mean, we are in state college, this is as far as you can get with sushi in State College. If you give sushi place in state college more than 3 stars rating, then definitely you were born in state college and never leave this town. But compared to other sushi stores (yep, I am looking at you Hunan Wok and Say Sushi!), Fuji is the best of all (again, in State College). The best you can get here is the salmon. The salmon just melts in your mouth, the best pieces you can get here. The Toro (fatty tuna bely) is alright, not that special, I have had better. The Tuna is too thickly sliced, I can only take 2 of these at most. The others are okay. So yea, nothing special, but this is the best place you can get your sushi from, in State College. I think I have become more and more depressed being in this town with its food.
(3)Juliette L.
Food is good, but I ordered delivery and did not receive my drinks when I called them back they tried to tell me I did receive them. Ummm no , I think , I would be drinking them with my food . Really unprofessional to accuse me of trying to get over on two cans of soda . I payed for them .. I'd like to have them.
(1)Kedar D.
I ate here often, as it provided decent vegan sushi and also had drinks like sake and Japanese beer which you can't easily find in State College. The Chinese menu was also pretty decent, at least a notch above your average strip-mall Chinese joint. I appreciated their mock chicken stir-fry, which was always on the "specials" menu and cost around $10 or so. I think it's the one and only place in central Pennsylvania that offers a mockmeat option as far as I know. The service was always prompt and friendly. This place is good for events or large-group gatherings, as they have a lot of space and also a separate, private room which can be reserved for parties.
(3)Hartej S.
Great price for great hibachi. Relative to state college, yes its a bit pricey. BUT compare this places prices and amount of food you get with hibachi with a commerical franchise hibachi place like Benihana and you'll realize why Fuji Jade is so amazing. Never thought getting noodles and seafood on hibachi was such a big deal until I went to other Hibachi places in NYC and NJ. I stay away from the chicken because its usually rubbery and not my cup of tea. The Salmon, Shrimp, and Sushi are to die for. You can the perfect balance of food. You get a little bit of what everyone orders complimentary. Fuji and Jade Garden is the place to go to celebrate an occasion in State College for me! PS - the staff is great!
(4)Sean R.
By far the best sushi restaurant in State College, and one of the best sushi places I have been. The fish is always fresh, the rolls are huge, and you can't beat the prices. The 3 roll lunch special with miso soup is awesome, the selection of rolls you can order on the special is great, (things like shrimp tempura and spicy spider). They also have really good miso soup. I have not had the Chinese food or hibachi here, so I can not comment on those. The interior is a bit all over the place with some things you expect too see in a Chinese restaurant, some nice decor, and a fake fishing net that has some plastic fish in it (it even has a plastic sea horse). I have heard rumors that there are raves here some nights, and if you look around that makes sense with some of the lighting, but it just adds to the mystery of Fuji Jade.
(5)Derek M.
It could be so much better. The service is spotty. More often than not, it's very slow, and the wait staff rarely come back to check on you. The food is usually bland (even if you ask for it spicy), and it's never warm enough (it's room temperature by the time you're half way done with the plate). Speaking of the food, it's gone downhill in recent years. The vegetables come out mushy, and they don't use firm tofu.
(2)Benjamin J.
My favorite Chinese restaurant in State College. They have the most authentic Chinese food in town (see the Shanghai / Zhejiang Cuisine page) But I am not sure if you will like it if you are not Chinese.
(4)Samantha N.
I have only been here maybe 3 or 4 times to eat lunch with a friend of mine. He likes this place because it's conveniently right across the "pond" from his apartment and of course he loves sushi, as do I! :) they have a fairly large, diverse sushi menu, and everything I've tried is absolutely delicious. I'm a sucker for Rainbow Rolls anywhere. I haven't tried any menu items except the seafood soup (which is delicious)! Friends who have gotten menu items have said for how expensive it is, it's just "regular old Chinese-American food you can get anywhere." which is rather disappointing. I love Chinese food too but not enough to pay $10 for a plate of pork lo mein. I also have to agree with other reviews and say the no-choice orange ginger dressing is ok, but not great. I'd like a choice of vinegarettes personally or even a sweet sesame dressing, and yes, it's true what you've heard... the service is VERY bland and slow. The wait staff doesn't really "try" for tips or genuine friendliness. Its an ok place if youre not one for experience and like sushi. I've heard so many good things about Sakura Sushi that my fiancé and I are making a special trip out there in September to experience Sakura's all you can eat sushi and Korean menu items :) i hear they have all styles of asian cuisine which sounds fantastic! I hope it's as great as everyone says it is!
(3)Emmett V.
I eat or order from Fuji Jade probably more often that any other single place in town. Their variety, price, speed, and atmosphere all make for a good all around restaurant. They have great bar tended by a very knowledgeable and pleasant fellow. As Kathleen said, he'll graciously answer any questions, make a recommendation, tell you a story, whatever. I like the wait staff and I think they do a fine job. They're attentive enough to serve but not to bug you. The chinese food is fine, above average for State College. The sushi is most often very good and typically fresh. Whether it's delicious or just as expected I'm always satisfied. I usually have salmon, yellowtail or eel. They go a little heavy on the fish roe though. I've never done the hibachi thing but I hear its fun. Good beer and wine selection too.
(4)Tara A.
Great. Love their gen so chicken! Not always the friendliest service when ordering delivery , but the food is worth it
(4)Darren H.
This place has everything. And it is good.
(4)Alex E.
Got Chinese food delivered. While the price may keep some of the students away, this is definitely the highest quality Asian restaurant in town. Worth the $$

This place is so hit or miss I don't even know where to begin. I have had great meals here and I have sworn to never return. Let's start with the service. On a good day it sucks. I have sat at a table for close to an hour before a drink order was taken. We just kept walking up to the bar. I have argued with one server over ordering off the hibachi menu while sitting with others in the main part of the restaurant only to be told it was fine by another. I have not received food that I ordered or gotten the wrong dish many times. Then I get to argue with the server to fix the bill. Good times! I used to try and get delivery from there. Guess what, it never comes! As far as the food goes, at one point I would have claimed it was the best Japanese/Sushi in STC. The Hibachi food is usually good. The sushi has really started to get bad now. The last 2 times I ordered it I could not eat it. Was not fresh or edible imo. Stick to hibachi or the Chinese food and it can be ok.

Visiting the area from out of town. Decided to order delivery from here and it was quite good. The sushi was better. Delivery and customer service kinda suck though!

We had a delightful and delicious take-out meal in March. Being there in person might have been better - but they did a great job. Delicious specialty rolls and beautifully presented.

She says: This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in State College, and I often order for pick up or for delivery. I especially like their tofu with vegetables and garlic sauce (really, anything they have with garlic sauce), their soups, and lo mein. Not the greatest fan of their Hunan/Szechuan dishes. The dinner specials are reasonably priced, and the quality is consistent. He says: I agree, it's the best Chinese I've had in State College. I've liked all the soups I've tried, which include the hot & sour, the egg drop, the wonton, and the seafood soup from the Japanese side. While we generally pick up, they're a fine sit-down restaurant, too. One thing -- the quality ranges from excellent to just good, I think it depends which chef is on duty. So some days it will wow you and others just feed you. We both recommend: Mongolian beef.

Most delicious food I ever had.

For this restaurant there needs to be a zero star rating. Fuji & Jade Garden was the worst dining experience I have had in recent memory, and perhaps ever. I'm just sayin'... Our friends picked the place as they wanted to sit at the habachi tables, where the cook the food in front of you as a kind of performance sport. They thought it would be fun. So, they made a 7 pm reservation. When we arrived the place was jammed. Every table full and people waiting at the bar. We had forgotten that it was Chinese New Year when we made our plans, and so it seems everyone was out for Chinese. The host told us he was sorry (the first of many apologies we would receive) , but there would be some delay getting seated because of this. We sat at the bar and waited...and waited...and waited, as other folks were seated. Soon we were alone and getting hungry, so we tried to order some food from the bartender. We asked a question about one of the appetizers and he said "I don't really know anything about the food menu." Hmmm...red flag number two. We ordered anyway, so edamame and yakitori just to keep us alive. At 8:00 (yes, one hour after our reservation) the host told us he could seat us. Our bar food had not yet arrived (the beginning of another theme), so we went to our table. 8:15 Our bar food arrives, but after 15 minutes no one has come to take any kind of order (even brought us water). We eat our edamame (it was fine, but really how can you screw up bean sprouts with a little salt on them) and yakitori (bland and rubbery). One of our party goes to ask if we can have some water and see a wait person (yet another theme of the night). 8:30 Still waiting for contact with the wait staff. We send another member of our party out to request service. A few minutes later someone takes a drink order and leaves. 8:40 One parched member of our stranded crew goes out to ask about water and returns with one glass. We consider rationing it and being joking about being on MTV's "Boiling Point". Note: It is more than an hour and a half after our reservation and we have still received no drinks and have not even placed our food order (besides that yummy food we ordered at the bar). 8:45 We send someone out in search of our drinks and to get us water. Drinks come. They are fine, because they are out of a bottle right, so all you have to do is pour them, or in this case bring us a bottle. Water still does not come. We place our food order (because we have the waiter there and don't know when we will see him again). Host comes over to apologize and explains about Chinese New Year. Some nightmare couple of parties that kept adding people to their group (i.e. called with reservation for 25 and arrived with 32). Note to host: (1) It is your job to tell people that come with 7 extra people that you can't seat them, not punish other people who made a reservation for the correct number of people); (2) People you punished are not sympathetic to your plight, especially when they are starving and thirsty and you are unresponsive with regard their basic survival needs. 8:50 Salad comes. Iceberg lettuce and one lonely cherry tomato in what tastes like French dressing. Almost immediately soup arrives, tasting so strongly chemical that no one at the table eats it (and we are hungry). 8:55 We send another intrepid member of our party out for water (it really has not been brought to us yet). Water is delivered. Are you getting a sense of the way things work here? It is like reverse service - you go get a wait person, threaten them, and then they bring you what you came to the restaurant in the first place for. Nice system. 9:00 Our tableside cook comes. He is very entertaining. Everyone gets the same thing except for your protein choice (i.e. chicken, beef, shrimp, etc.). Basically what we get (besides the show) is stir-fried (insert protein here) with vegetables over rice. The cost is between 14 and 32 dollars. Hmmm.... 9:20 Done with our repast. Awaiting our check. (Please revisit themes of abandonment above). 9:25 Send party member (see themes) to get check. Check retrieved only to find promised free round of drinks actually not free. Surprised? (BTW at this point time has slowed so that five minutes feel roughly like 100 years). 9:30 Manager leaves to "fix" check. 9:35 No check yet. Party ALL go to get check and leave if we can not find someone to give us check. Host not to be found. Bartender prints new copy of check (with no charge for drinks). We pay and leave wondering if we just spent dinner in some anti-restaurant where all things run differently. Maybe, as my five year old says it was "opposite day" in Fuji & Jade Garden.

I went here in a desperate attempt to find a good Japanese restaurant in State College. I hate to bad mouth restaurants especially because my parents owned one, but I was disappointed. Half of this place serves Japanese food and the other half serves Chinese food. That in itself made me a little suspicious, but like I said, I was desperate. The miso soup was bland. The smoked salmon sushi was not fresh. The Teriyaki Chicken was not tasty. The service was poor -- kind of like what you'd expect from a Chinatown restaurant late at night, but we're not in a Chinatown! Admittedly, I went here last year (either end of 2006 or early 2007) so I can't remember the details, but these were my overall impressions and I felt obligated to have to share that now that I'm actually writing Yelp reviews instead of just reading them. I noticed they had Hibachi tables there and I didn't try those, so to be fair, maybe that or their Chinese food is better than their Japanese food. I probably wouldn't eat here again unless someone convinced me it was worth another try. And if I do go back, and I find that everything's changed, I'll be sure to let you know.

This is, sadly, our favorite chinese restaurant in SC. we have have not had the horror stories from the other reviews. but, they could happen, and related stories have happened to us, but more modest in scope. the food is so-so, but we have not gotten sick (downtown, but may be closed now) or seen people get sick (golden wok). The service, if they are not too busy, is ok, but recently getting better and sometimes now very good indeed. the takeaway is ok, but a bit sloppy, but takeaway is often a bit wet. the japanese is ok if you know what you are doing. if you are eating at the hibachi, then you do not know what you are doing, and good luck to you in that case. I have had lunch here, and come to think about it, should go there more often for lunch. they seem to keep getting better (summer 2008, fall 2010), and we continue to have some hope for them. I think they are now established, and if you had a bad experience, go back and try it again. We ate there recently (late summer, 2009), and they seem to be getting their act together. We did not get what we ordered (Gen Tsao's delight vs. GT Chicken), but it was the best it's been nearly anywhere. The service was a bit better, and the hibachi tables were still full with people learning about hibachi tables.

What in the world is a two-in-one Japanese&Chinese restaurant? Thanks for both menus, I love reading encyclopedias. Twice. Sigh, I was so confused. That said, the 'Chinese' food is pretty standard [in a good way]. Standard service, standard food, standard place. Nothing to complain about.

The sushi is amazing. The drinks are the best in state college. Best bartender we ever met. If you dont know what drink you want the bartender will make you an amazing drink based on what you like This is our favorite place to go. The service is good. Highly recommend this place.

I am a regular at this restaurant (for dine-in), so I wish I could honestly give Fuji and Jade a higher rating, but they do have problems. First, though, their good points: * Half of the staff is pretty friendly. * The sushi is good, great if we put it into the context of being in central Pennsylvania. The head sushi chef is particularly skilled, and perhaps the best reason to get sushi here -- his presentation and preparation is always worthwhile. * There are vegetarian options, and an incredibly wide variety of food choices. * Most of the food has been good. Once it was actually almost too spicy for me (and that's saying something!) - yes, this dish was marked on the menu as spicy, though that rarely means much to me. * The prices are reasonable. * The bar at this place is incredible. They have a nice selection of liquors from the commonplace to the exotic. I'd say Fuji's bar is to liquor in this town as Zeno's is to beer. The weekday and Saturday night bartenders will shake your mixed drinks and will make them properly even when things are busy - quality is not sacrificed here. If you want cheap stuff poured in a plastic cup and given a wimpy stir: there are other places in town for you. If you are interested in mixed drinks (and they aren't busy - see below), or learning about their alcoholic offerings, sit at the bar. * Takeout is done quickly. And now the not so good: * The main problem with this place is that things fall apart when they get busy. This is partially due to half the staff not being very friendly ...or adept at English... and/or not having a good work ethic. It is also partially due to the management. These can still be problems when they aren't busy, of course... But if you would like to enjoy this restaurant I simply can't recommend going when they are busy (nights before/after games, Friday/Saturday nights, holidays, parents' weekend, etc.) If you must do so, then try to make a reservation and arrive a little early (this is a must for the hibachi tables and large groups). * If you order the incredible mixed drinks while they are busy (if you can even get a hold of your waiter to do so, and get them to understand) be prepared to wait for them - you're better off ordering beer, wine, or cold sake. Some drinks, notably the Bloody/Virgin Geisha, aren't available on Friday/Saturday. If you order from both menus (Chinese and Japanese) you will also need to wait longer than if you stick to choices from one. * Delivery times tend to be on the high side. So, in the end I find Fuji and Jade a bit of a compromise, not just in cuisine but also overall. In my case it works out that I go there regularly, but I can't give it an unconditional recommendation. I'm a fan, so four stars it is.

So, I wavered a bit on how to rate this, but went with the "solid" 3-star rating for a few reasons. We ordered take-out here on a Friday night, which I like to think of as the ultimate test of a hectic take out place (take out in Boston on a Friday night? Hop in line with the other 5030595 lazy undergrads/med students/real people who want food in 15 minutes). I was however, surprised that the food was ready quickly - even with a diverse order. The kid (and, yes, I do mean PSU student KID) who took our order was suuuuper confused on the phone, which made things a bit frustrating. I was ordering off of a menu that came in the mail, and just ordering dishes by name. The kid wanted numbers, and was totally thrown when the numbers on the mail-out menu didn't match the numbers on HIS menu. It was like a numerical language barrier, but we eventually worked it out. We tried to cover all bases by ordering sushi, Japanese and Chinese selections. I was really pleased with the selection of vegetarian sushi -- to be honest, I think that Wegmans is prob the best choice for fresh rolls and great fish, but if you're looking for a veggie option and are sick of carrot and/or cuke you're SOL there. At Fuji Jade, though, they had Natto and Oshinko makis, which are two of my absolute faves, and also seem to be relatively tough to find. Thumbs up there. The spicy wasabi shumai and pork gyoza were both pretty good, but neither came with a dipping sauce, which I found strange (this may or may not have been because were were take-out, not dine-in, but honestly, let's not skimp on the 50 cents worth of ginger dipping sauce, people). We decided on Chinese entrees mainly for price reasons (Chinese food = cheap; the Japanese entrees = overpriced in comparison) and the food was somewhere "ok" -- pretty much what you'd get at any mall or other fast-food Chinese take-out spot. The sesame chicken improved overnight, though (or maybe it was just tastier after tailgating, whateves). It seems like the dine-in experience might be totally different -- they have a full bar, more than one type of sake, and what looks like 2 or 3 hibachi tables (if you're into that). The atmosphere looked nice, and it was pretty busy for 7pm on a Friday, but I suppose that's to be expected. I'll definitely be back to try out a few more dishes...maybe I will be swayed to go up a star next time.

If this is considered Japanese food, then Lord help us all. Long story short, it's spawned from the same evil seed as Hunan Wok and Okinawa. Take Okinawa for example. It's the same crappy Chinese food from Hunan Wok with slight "Japanese" alteration and seasonings mixed in. BAM. Little Tokyo. Now Fuji & Jade is simply the same grub from Okinawa dressed up and with a slightly expanded menu plus a healthy upcharge of several dollars or more. Double BAM. Land of the rising sun. That said, I had been in more arguments with the management than I care to explain. The first of which was over an order of brown rice. Simply enough? I called in an order based off of their menu: the manager picked up and said they didn't have that particular item. I asked if they were out, he rudely tells me they never carried it in the first place. I point out it's on the menu and at that moment, things became quickly nasty. He then literally proceeds to belittle me, tells me to learn how to read and actually slams the phone on me while I'm speaking. I call back to ask for a manager (I didn't know that was him) and again, he hangs up on me. Enraged, my fiancee and I actually walk over (since we were like, right across the street) and demand to speak to a manager as we would like to place a complaint. It was at that point he tells us he "is" the manager and basically tells us that if we don't like it, get out. To add, the manager rented apartments at the complex across the street (where I both lived and work) for which he would place his employees. Needless to say, that experience was terrible. The food is mediocre and the management, absolutely horrific. Never mind I got totally sick from their Chinese joint. Honestly if Japanese if what you're seeking, State College is completely incapable of dishing out. You're 100% better off stopping by the Asian market and making your own or if in the event you can't fry a fish to save your life, make the drive to Altoona for better options.
(1)Tamara G.
I've only had the sushi, and it's good. Not great, but good. Lots of vegie/vegan options, as well as pescotarian. Has mixed drinks and beer/wine/sake etc. Weird service -- good until time to get the check. Maybe allowing us to enjoy talking? At any rate, we had to ask for the check. But we will definitely be regulars -- so far the best sushi in the SC.

I'm a sucker for lists. To do lists. Yelp Lists. Top 100 lists. etc. So when this restaurant appeared on the "Top 100 Chinese Restaurants" for 2007 as Rising Star ( top100chineserestaurants… ), and was the closest restaurant to the foresaken place of Altoona, CA -- we decided to head over here and try our luck. Hm. How it got on the Top 100 Chinese restaurants is incredible. Considering the sheer number of Chinese places that exist. I mean, even the tiny little Caribbean islands have Chinese food! We're everywhere! It's the 1 billion ppl we have roaming the earth! But... we weren't overly impressed by this place. it's a combo- Japanese/Chinese restaurant. Which always leaves me a little wary since I think they should find one specialty and concentrate on that. That said, they have a great lunch special. 3 rolls for $9.95, or the standard Chinese lunch fare for some $5. Including a soup. Gotta love cheap food. But the cheap cost = cheap service. Well, maybe only because we were Chinese. The white folks definitely got more attention. But I quickly learned where the water was located, where the chopsticks were, etc. Love self-service. :) Would we do the 30min drive out to State College from the boonies of Altoona? Not likely. Our cheap Asian sensibilities aren't _that_cheap. I mean, c'mon -- there's the Altoona Gourmet Buffet for that!!

We love to come here for hibachi. They give you so much food and it is delicious!
(4)Ma W.
We went with a group of friends to try the Hibachi table. It was lots of fun and the food was great. I really enjoyed the night. The only reason I am not giving five stars is that it was overpriced.

I ordered delivery from here once, a dinner special of Eggplant with Garlic Sauce, white rice, and hot&sour soup. The service was quick, and the food was...eh.... The soup was decent, but the eggplant was very bland and cooked to absolute mush. It was also fairly dry, and what sauce there was seemed to be mostly oil. I ended up adding a healthy amount of soy sauce and hot sauce to make it tasty. Because it's close and cheap, I may try to order something else at a later date. Or I may not.
(2)Amanda B.
My favorite sushi/hibachi restaurant! The Chinese is good, too. The service here is not great, but the food has always been good. Their spicy spider maki roll is amazing!
(4)Barbara P.
First time to Fuji and Jade Garden tonight. If you remember the old buffet restaurant that used to do business here don't come expecting the same. They have totally re-done the interior. Simply beautiful. We tried appetizers, a sushi roll and two entrées. The food was delicious and served promptly. I will certainly go again. Kudos to the bartender who made a delicious gin cosmopolitan with an additional shot of another gin he wanted me to try. He made the place. I'll go back sometime just to have a drink at the bar!
(4)Joshua G.
First, understand that this is a Chinese restaurant with that also does Japanese standards. The Chinese food is great. The Japanese ranges from mediocre to pretty good. What makes this place stand out is that it's the only one (at least that I know of) in Central PA that has a teppanyaki bar - you know, Beni Hana style, where they chop and cook in front of you, set things on fire, see if you can catch shrimp in your mouth, and generally make the meal an entertaining event. The prices are reasonable (I think we ended up paying about $20/person without drinks but with tax and tip). Now, this isn't something you do with a friend or a date - bring some friends and family. Ideal size is maybe 6-8 people, although they'll accommodate larger or smaller. The Chinese food is really quite good - as good as any in State College, and they have a huge menu. My fave is probably the twice-cooked pork, but I've never had a bad meal. I think their chow fun isn't up to the highest standards, but the menu is enormous (plus the Japanese menu). They have Shainghainese and other specials, but make sure you know what you are getting - if it says stewed fish head, that's what you get. Fatty pork is just what it sounds like. Don't worry, they have all the standards, including egg foo yung. Dinner dishes run $7-12 (except for specials), and lunch specials (very good, limited menu) is about $5. I think they nail you on sodas, but I don't know for sure. Apps are a mixed bag. I don't like any of their rolls - often we order a sushi roll as an appetizer (the sushi is as good as any in State College, which means it's OK). The one standout is dumplings - steamed or fried, they are just awesome. The thick, doughy dumpling wraps are homemade. A few special notes: 1. If you are going to cater in State College, use them - they charge less, deliver, and offer much better food, and lots of choices. 2. The service is mediocre - it's not just the Chinese (as a prior reviewer mentioned). Still, they don't mind if you get up, go get yourself some more water, some chopsticks, hot sauce... 3. Not all of the waiters speak English, so sometimes special orders (e.g. no mushrooms) are tricky. 4. The bartender (and I've only seen one) is fantastic, and if you are having a problem with something, get his attention, and he'll help out. All in all, a good meal, good food, and for a party, go to the teppanyaki bar (reservations recommended, absolutely necessary for weekends). For a regular table, generally not necessary. I've gotten seated immediately, even on home game weekends at 7:00PM. It's not that the place isn't popular, it's just that it's enormous.
(4)Rachel K.
I should have known that a place that somehow lumps a number of Asian cuisines in one location would be terrible. Bad service. Bad food. Stay away from here if you like your Chinese food without MSG. The food is not exactly cheap either.
(1)Jess G.
Typical chinese food. Not that this is a bad thing, but if you're expecting to be wowed, go somewhere else (not likely since it's in State College). If you want standard, can't-complain, everyone's-happy chinese food, this is the place to go. I have no complaints except maybe the delivery quality (they tend to forget items or overcharge occasionally). But for pick-up, this place is the best in State College, no contest.
